9:00 update

I just got the first update from the OR. The surgery got started about 8:40, and as of 9:00, Mike was doing well, all vital signs stable, and they were beginning the work on his neck. The RN who called with the update said that she would be in touch by phone from the OR every two hours, so I hope to hear something around 11:00.

The connectivity in the waiting room is really spotty, so I may not be able to post much. I’ll just do what I can to keep everybody informed.

Otherwise, the morning is passing slowly but pleasantly. My sister Nancy has been here with me since about 6:30, and is now learning all about Sudoku. :-)

More in a couple of hours...

When I explained that Uncle Mike was having surgery today and that we would be helping with the pets, Ellie asked whether he would have a band-aid and I said "yes". She then asked if she could kiss it and make it better. I tried to explain about hospitals, surgery, etc. Then Ellie thought that blowing a kiss would work, so Ethan and Ellie are blowing kisses to Uncle Mike's band-aid.

Hi, Tricia,
Many thanks for keeping us posted. You and Mike had an interesting morning just getting to the hospital! I am thinking of both of you all day. Tricia, I'm sure this is an exercise in patience today--you are such a good soul. I am with you in spirt and will look forward to any more news. If you can look out a window, there is some glorious sunshine. Take care of yourself.
Love, Peggy

Hi, Tricia -- I haven't been good for much at the office these past couple of days, but I'd be worse if I didn't have your notes and the knowledge that you are there keeping an eye on the man and advocating for what he needs. I'm sure he is greatly relieved to have your level head and caring heart speaking for him.

I don't know that I really had a complete idea of what Mike was going to be going through, but trachs and flap checks says quite a bit. I knew it would be involved but to what extent, I had not imagined.

Well, give his foot a squeeze and tell him it's from "Blort," and love to you both!
